There are people out there who enjoy the music I make, and I enjoy getting my music out into the universe as an outlet for what I feel I do well but there are always challenges when it comes to me bringing out music. Firstly I work a dayjob that just about looks after my family. In the game of life I chose not to follow the college path and “legit career” and opted towards “the dream”, which started off well and was intoxicating when it all came together and hit, yet the huge rewards didnt last long. Now when I want to put more music out, I somehow have to pay for it since all my dayjob funds are tied up in the everyday. Also the less I work my dayjob, the more I can work on the music. Tricky.
The last time I brought out new material, the solution was to go the way of crowd funding. Not many people were doing it back then so it was kind of pioneering something new which I like and it got the job done for me with the help of you folks who were looking forward to new music. It was pretty cool and led to me getting new music out, merch out and a UK tour.
This time around I didnt want to put the burden on the shoulders of the few. Someone had an idea that since I had a good number of people in my emailing list, I should be releasing more music more often and that way I could raise funds for bigger budget projects. Thats what i’m doing with songs from the nuclear war. I’ve got a lot of songs, and thanks to having some TV placements I was able to invest in a basic protools studio to lower my overheads, though the productions arent gonna be quite as good as when i work with a producer, because my gear isnt as expensive…
Now you will hear a lot about me saying “buy this stuff so I can make more music”, and that is totally the truth. If people dont buy my stuff it will be apparent to me there isnt a demand and I wont be able to justify spending so much time on it, which is a shame but fair enough. The more sales I get, I can get more merch made, better gear to record and travel expenses to tour. So, its that simple, if you want me to come and tour, make music, keep buying my stuff!
Thankyou all! Josh
