What happened last night? For those of you who fought alongside me…

I apologise for somewhat rudely interrupting whatever you were doing last night to get you to join me in my scheming…like a long lost prodigal brother who shows up and steals you away in his 4×4..Its always fun though..shall I enter some more songs and do it again?

For you latecomers to the party, I entered some songs a while ago into this website and left them there… then I find out that one of the songs had gotten through a quarter final judging stage, a semi final judging stage and was in a pool of 21 to possibly win $5,000 plus lots of other prizes… I mean I dont usually care for these competitions but I have been a gambler in the past and 1 in 21 are not bad odds especially when you have great fans… I thought – I could use that money to tour in the UK at last…

So naturally, wrestling with self sabotage , I didnt tell anyone until 8 hours before the votes would be tallied. But through Facebook, MySpace and the mailing list, we put up a valiant fight in those eight hours. It was close.

With 3 hours to go, we went to #1. We stayed there for an hour, then went down inexplicably to #7, then back up in the last 45 minutes to #2… Then the other bands brought out their heavy artillery and kaboom the little punk song got blown away. Either that or it was a complete fix…. Anyway I lost out to Jason Schwartzman (from Rushmore, Darjeeling Limited, The Royal Tenenbaums, rock band Phantom Planet) and his solo project “coconut music” which isnt the worst way to go out.  It was a nice song. And there will be a runners up prize of some sort.

However, I am not sad… I was so thankful. Its like  – youre still out there. There are people still interested. I tried to thank everyone one by one who voted last night if I missed you I am sorry… but we almost pulled it off…

I have a lot of things to talk about, to lay bare, and I feel ok about doing a blog now, I have some things to say i’ve been thinking about, and its time I took this seriously again.

I am half finished with the record, with more recording to come, and I am going to tour in the UK regardless of how it gets funded, because the new songs are worth it, and wherever I go with a band or without, people are responding without radio or nme telling them to respond.  There is something good happening and its time to get the ball rolling…

Come on!! I’m not giving up, i’m a fighter…

P.S  To imagine the new album, I have samples of the three different sides of my stuff if you go to speakerheart.com/joshdoyle. Where it has pictures of “albums” click the sound icon next to the heart icon to hear samples and imagine them sounding like fully produced and rocking, but also intimate and affecting….But with better songs… Punk energy but great musicianship and dead on lyrics, soulful vocals… I am not stopping till that gets captured on record…I want to make something that captures what I think I have inside to give to the world. And youll all be proud to say you stuck with me in the beginning.

P.P.S Did anyone catch the brand new unheard stuff sneaking in between the cracks on ourstage? What did you think? I bet no one caught it…
